hello! i have had freshwater aquariums for a long time but usually just with various community fish. i want to start cichlid tank but i have a few questions first: can you keep African and south American cichlids together? wich fish are more colorful? (African of s. American?) which ones are the smaller breeds? (i dont want any fish over 3 inches) are there any other fish that can live peaceful with cichlids? do i need to have aquarium salt with them? what temp do i keep them at? what water p.h? what food do they like? thanks so much!!! i really appreciate all of the help!

I'm going to build a freshwater aquarium all around side glass (will be in the middle of my living room) with common goldfish or neon fish in it with this size (in inches): 70 L x 8 W x 30 H. Could you please answer to the following questions to remove once at all my permanent doubts ? 1) Which thickness of glass in mm shall I used ? Safety is my first priority as I have two small kids I want the safest glass possible. 2) I heard that plexiglas is stronger than glass especially for big tank like this one, is it right ? I think glass is better to clean than plexiglas. 3) If I am going to put live plant, shall I need a CO2 equipment inside ? 4) Shall I need also a UV STERILIZER PUMP ? If yes, what is it for ? 5) Can the common goldfish and neon fish live in the same tank without problems ? 6) Which equipments shall I buy for ? I was thinking on two in particular, the Eheim 2215 Classic Canister Filter or the Marineland Aquarium Canister Filter C-360, what do you think ? It would be very help full If you could list exactly the model of each equipment I shall buy for let this aquarium works as best as possible because I am completely new of this and do not know anything yet. i was wondering if can a spotted figure 8 puffer fish live with a cichlid? it says online that you can put a puffer in freshwater. so if it can live in freshwater i was wondering what it can live with. i really like cichlids so i was wondering if it can live with them what kind? what all Accessories do i need for the aquarium. also what any other info about them would be great.

We have freshwater 75 gallon aquarium with 2 brown knifes, 1 ghost knife, 3 Bala Sharks, 3 congo tetras, 1 rainbow, 4 small chiclids, 2 clown somethings, 1 albino frog and 3 fish i don't know what they are. We came home tonight and the light was off in our tank the fish were all gathered at the bottom. We turned on the light and it appeared that the fish were twitching. one of the tetras was laying on the bottom of the tank, he eventually got up and all the fish are now swimming around normally a few twitches here and there but over all ok. Were they just waking up or out they sick??

I have an aquarium, but i dont have any fish, im looking for a fish that is either colorful and "beautiful" similar to saltwater fish, or a fish that would be more than willing to eat small feeder fish, i have alot of reptiles and i have found that one of the best things about owning them is feeding them live insects or for my snakes mice, i want a fish that has an interesting feeding response. Nothing too big because the aquarium isn't that big, about a 10 gallon. thanks

saltwater setup to switch to freshwater so i grabbed 6 five gallon buckets and filled them up with his water and also got his live sand, which he had established for over a year, mixed it with 30 or so gallons of filtered tap, figured it would give me a jump start.. He also gave me 2 anemones and 3 fish. it is currently set up with an old school halogen light built in the hood with a regular bulb. I have a protein skimmer, heat(74F), and power heads.Its has a whisper 60 with an extended tube to reach down the tall tank for filtration which has done the job thus far. Now i wanted to set up the tank with live rock and coral and had some questions...Can a special bulb be bought for the halogen light to make enough light for coral, or does a special lamp need to be bought? How long should the light be on in the tank?off day and on night? Is the charcoal filter bad for the tank? How much live rock is generally needed to build a center piece in an aquarium like this? Any help would be great. Thanks Sam
